Kermit the Spider-Man ... or Spider-Frog?

(Ink, Pen, and Marker)

Don't ask me why I decided this was a good idea - it just sort of popped into my head.  Quick sketch, colored in marker.  I think I'm going to go ahead and do some more of these.  It was a lot of fun - and a good excuse to get back into using the brush pen and markers.  I think the green-guy would be a good Spider-Man.  I mean I guess Disney does own both Marvel and The Muppets...

***Update*** I totally just noticed that I'm not the first one to come up with the Spider-Kermit idea... dang. Haha.

I'M BACK!!!

Wow, ok - it's been quite a while since I've posted anything, so I'm more than excited to say that I'm glad to be back!  Where was I exactly?  I was keeping pace with school and finishing up my semester.  i had an excellent experience teaching a great group of kids as part of a Saturday Art Workshop (SAW).  It was an 8-week program in which students showed up at 9:30am (way earlier than I probably ever got up on a Saturday growing up) to come to an art class (once again, I'm pretty sure I never went to school on my weekend off from school).  Anyways, the short story is that it was not only a great teaching a experience, but a learning experience as well.  We managed to get in 3 major art projects, and my class - along with 6 other classes held an art show to display the culmination of the SAW program.  Below is a snapshot of a corner of the gallery - my class's work is in the corner on the left.

I've been working on some of my own art, though limited due to teaching taking up a lot of time!  I just got an iPad so I've been playing around with some of the art programs on it.  I settled on a program called "Procreate, it's worked for me so far, and I'm impressed with the level of features and ability in this program.  If you're interested, here's a link to their website: Procreate (I should really see about getting paid for advertising stuff!)  I can appreciate the iPad's sensitivity to finger-based gestures, but for a program like this is grabbed a stylus, and I went with the WACOM bamboo stylus, because frankly, their products haven't let me down yet.  Ok, enough talk, below is the first drawing I whipped up on the iPad.

For this work, I had some inspiration from a couple of sources: AVATAR's floating mountains of pandora, the beautiful illustration work from a game called "Machinarium", and a little bit of my own previous work.

I think that's all for now.  I have some other things in the works, and I plan on being more faithful to keeping up with the blog and posting regularly now that I have a little less "homework".  Until next time - keep on keepin' on!

Leap Day William

(Ink and Marker)

Happy Leap Day!  In celebration of our "extra" day, I decided that I wanted to do a quick sketch of "Leap Day William".  If you don't know who Leap Day William is, check out the latest episode of 30 Rock.  That's all for now folks!

Kickin' off the New Year: February-style

Well, it's good to be back.  I realize my "brief" pause turned into a much, MUCH longer one, but I'm back and time to get on track.  Taking one month off during a much needed break from college turned into two....  So, "What's new Vic?" you might ask.  Well I have a couple of new things goin' on.  First-off, I have a new position at Central Connecticut State University (where I'm going to grad-school for art education) as the Art Department's Graduate Assistant.  I kicked off the semester helping out with the "Figures" exhibit at Central's art gallery and met the showing artists.  It was a really great experience getting my feet wet with working in a gallery.  Next on my plate is an album cover for my friend, Andrew Shea, who will be releasing his new EP later this month.  You can check out his Facebook page HERE.  Ok, enough words, time for a picture:

I wanted to do a new self-portrait that related to me currently.  Over the holidays I was showered with a slew of new video games: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, Gears of War 3, and an Xbox Kinect.  So it's pretty easy to see how I may have gotten side-tracked and taken a break from the blog for a while....but I suppose you can only play video games for so long right?  Well, until next time!

A brief pause,

With the last week of school on it's way and finals coming up soon, I'm going to have to put a hold on updating until I can get the massive pile of work moved from "not done" to the "well I'm glad that's over" bin.  See ya soon!
